Hendrika was born in the Netherlands a year before her family emigrated to the United States. They settled in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where she grew up, married Martin Cegielski, and raised three children. Seeking a quiet and simpler lifestyle once the children had grown, they found it in Delta County, Colorado. It was here that she finally found the time to pick up a paintbrush and begin the best journey of her life.

Hendrika has exhibited her art in the Colorado Mile High National Pastel Juried Exhibit in Denver and the Artist Alpine Holiday Juried Show in Ouray ,Colorado, as well as many local art shows.

“I have now taken on another medium which has given me much joy to work with and creates a new path for my art. I accidentally walked in on a gourd workshop at a local Art Center and immediately realized that I had found another avenue to explore. Gourds are three-dimensional canvases with so many creative possibilities that I never thought were possible."
