“It’s the simple things in life that are free and so easily missed.”

The Grand Mesa Arts and Events Center is honored to recognize Rea Ann Loomis for her valued volunteer service!

With a passion for the beneficial effects art and creative endeavors have on children, Rea Ann teaches Art classes and hosts open studio for the GMAEC Art Garage. She also serves on the Art Garage Education Committee. Her experience and skills from a long career as an Educator are instrumental in the success of not only the Art classes Rea Ann teaches, but the future plans for the Art Garage as a vital part of the community. Rea Ann also volunteers at the Surface Creek Animal Shelter walking dogs and helping with projects at the facility and the thrift store.

From Denver to California, for a Master’s degree in Geosciences, Rea Ann ended up as a fire lookout in the forests of Idaho! It was there that she met her husband, Gary, and they settled in Idaho where she taught elementary school for 32 years. After retiring a decade ago, Rea Ann moved to Eckert from Idaho to be closer to family.

Rea Ann’s hobbies include knitting and creating art, but as a true all-season nature lover, she also enjoys hiking, biking, kayaking, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing. Her past outdoor adventures included skydiving and swimming with turtles in the Pacific Ocean.

It is with much appreciation and gratitude that the GMAEC offers a big thank you to Rea Ann Loomis!
