The Grand Mesa Arts and Events Center is proud to feature volunteer Stephen McCarthy for the month of December!

Originally from New York, and after living in various states including a long stint in California, Stephen ended up in Cedaredge five years ago. A perfect place for his golf and fly fishing hobbies! He started attending concerts and art classes at the GMAEC and soon after became one of our most valuable volunteers! You can find Stephen cheerfully hard at work setting up for concerts and programs. This “behind the scenes” volunteer service is taken for granted but is crucial to the comfort of patrons and the success of events.

Stephen spent fifty years as a “Renaissance Man” in the field of computer engineering, technology, coding and programming. Many conveniences we enjoy in the modern era, including email features, ATM networks, and internet capabilities are available because of Stephen’s training, teamwork and innovative efforts for companies in the field.

As a devoted partner, father and grandfather, a committed volunteer, and a friend to many, Stephen clearly knows what to do with love. Maybe it stems from his earlier life hanging out and helping others in places like Haight-Ashbury? And not only attending Woodstock, but appearing in the movie of the event? Yes, he’s a hippy!
