About the Event
Expect a soul-drenched ride through The Heart of Harmony with Jan Garrett & JD Martin, multi-award-winning Colorado singer songwriters. Deeply moving, universally uplifting, fiery and funny, their original music is described as "Rich and intelligent....a velvet-hammer wake-up call as refreshing and satisfying to the soul as it is to the ear....well-being made audible....songs and performances that dive fearlessly into all of the light and all of the shadow."
Jan & JD are all about generosity of the heart. Their in-person appeal comes from rich vocal harmonies, lyrical depth, and an easy stage presence. Their artfully written piano-based songs wind effortlessly through gospel, jazz, folk, and country styles. And always, through it all....those gorgeous voices. Their concerts are a feast of musical endorphins!
JD Martin is an acclaimed songwriter of 5 Number One and 10 Top Ten country and pop hit singles. His songs have been recorded by such luminaries as Reba McEntire, Terri Clark, B.J. Thomas, Peter Cetera, and Kathy Mattea. He has won 15 ASCAP awards for excellence in songwriting in Nashville and LA. JD’s velvet voice and stellar piano style are a delicious cross between Michael McDonald, Marc Cohen, and Bruce Hornsby…..heavily influenced by Dr. John and Leon Russell. But he can play a jazzy ballad or simple Celtic melody in a way that cracks open the heart. He is the groove man (and consummate recording engineer) whose signature keyboard sound infuses all the songs, and supports the music and vocals flawlessly.
Jan Garrett is a jazz singer with a poet’s soul. A native of Colorado and a lifelong musician, she is a master teacher, performance coach, wilderness vision quester, and creativity guide who believes that “The chance of a lifetime is to be yourself.” The mother of identical twin daughters, she has written a ton of great songs for children’s theater and beyond. In her colorful musical past Garrett's popular band "Liberty" recorded and toured with John Denver and Steve Martin (when he was doing stand-up) and appeared on the Tonight Show. She joined the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band for their historic 1977 Soviet Tour, and was later listed in the Rolling Stone “Who’s Who in Rock & Roll.” Since then, she has won multiple songwriting awards in the Positive Music world, and helped found Carbondale's gem of a comedy group, "Consensual Improv."
