About the Event

Retired Archaeologist and Tribal Liason Sally Crum joins us for this informative presentation of Hunters and Gatherers of the Surface Creek Valley.

Sally will give a talk on the lives of Paleoindian mammoth hunters, Archaic hunters and gatherers, the Fremont Culture (contemporaries of the "Hisatsinom", or Anasazi to the south), and the Northern, Ute Mountain, and Southern Utes.  Surface Creek provided a popular route from the Valleys to the top of the Grand Mesa for souther hunting and gathering forays.  The valleys of the Gunnison and Colorado rivers and their tributaries provided these people with bountiful resources for food and shelter for more than 13,000 years.
