Songwriter Workshop $25 per person. Pay at the door. Space is limited. Reservations Required IRENE KELLEY is a successful singer/songwriter and recording artist living in Nashville for 35+ years. Her songs enjoy worldwide airplay, have been licensed for film and TV, and recorded in many genres of music, including Country, Pop, Bluegrass, Children’s Music and others. Alan Jackson, Trisha Yearwood, Loretta Lynn, Ricky Skaggs, Rhonda Vincent, Little Big Town, Pat Green, Pure Prairie League and others have covered her songs. Irene has recorded for MCA Nashville and Relentless/Nashville as a country artist. Her current career as a Bluegrass artist has been distinguished by having 6 #1 songs on the Bluegrass Today Singles Chart. Irene will share her experience of the writing process which will include: • How I got into songwriting • My approach • Finding inspiration (what moves cannot freeze) Journaling, walking, reading poetry • Don’t mix metaphors • Do & don’ts • Use of metaphors • Continuity- what did I leave on the draft page that’s not in the song Co-writing • Sharing ideas • Etiquette • Come with an idea • Saying ‘yes’ instead of ‘no’ with no new idea-flow • Be intentional, think intentional. Be self-aware Song pitching • 1 to 3 best songs period! • Pitching etiquette How to make sure they take your call/email next time • Producers & artists have a hard time saying “no” or “rejecting” someone… Understand that • Clean and clear song demo. Full band or guitar vocal • Hire someone if you cannot sing Q & A
