Saturday, January 31st | 9:00 am - 12:00 pm $20 per person Adult class - Minimum age 14 Do you want to learn basic mending and hand sewing skills in order to repair your clothes and other home textiles? Learning to mend your own clothes empowers you to save money, keep textiles out of the landfill and take excellent care of things you love! Join avid hand sewist Elizabeth Buckingham for this fun class that will teach you basic mending skills, including replacing buttons, zipper repair, visible mending and more! The first 90 minutes will focus on lecture and demonstration, and the second 90 minutes will be an opportunity for you to work on your own mending projects with guidance and assistance. (Please note: this class is focused exclusively on hand sewing and mending and does not include any time or instruction on sewing machines.) Elizabeth Buckingham is a local farmer, textile artist and avid mender. She believes strongly in building both self-reliance and community through old-fashioned activities such as baking, canning, sewing, gardening and seed saving. She hosts mending clinics and seed swaps at the Art Garage, and she teaches a variety of cooking and preserving classes at her studio just north of town. Learn more at findingquietfarm.com.
