Learning to use light and shadow in art with Wayne McKinzie

Class Description

Class #1 - August 10th 8:00 am - 12:00 pm ILLUMINATION! DRAWING FOUNDATIONS This course will work with drawing techniques using graphite sticks and pencils, exploring the way light and shadow effect subject matter. This first class will work with drawing techniques using graphite sticks and pencils. The student will become familiar with the use of charcoal, pencils, and how to use shading and blending. Simple objects, sphere, cylinder, etc., will be set up as subject matter. We will play with light on these objects, providing the opportunity for the student to observe how light and shadow define the subject matter. Using these observations, we will experiment with recreating the image on paper. The class will start with short drawing sessions, learning to create an image with simple strokes, and expand into a final longer drawing period at the end of the class. Class #2 - August 24th 8:00 am - 12:00 pm ILLUMINATION! DRAWING STILL LIFE This second class will expand on the learning process from the first class. The subject matter and lighting will be more complex. Students will be using the same supplies and techniques from the first class to produce a more refined and finished image. The drawing sessions will be longer and allow for more "finishing" to be done to the drawings. Materials Included
