Dates/Times: Thursdays March 6th, 13th, and 20th 4:00-6:00pm In the Art Garage Pottery Studio Minimum age: 12 Registration fee: $90 Materials fee: $ 25 (clay) plus Tool kit optional ($15) • Materials available for purchase from the Art Garage: • Basic pottery making tool kit (kits can be purchased from other vendors) • Stoneware clay (must be purchased from the Art Garage) • Stoneware glazes for Session 3 are included in the class fee Learn and practice the satisfying skills of forming, texturing and decorating stoneware clay into functional and sculptural shapes. In this three session course you will experience the process of creating with clay. Great class for beginners or those who want to revisit these skills. Session 1: March 6th-forming, shaping and texturing o How to: o use the items in your basic tool kit and tips for adding tools to your collection o prepare and wedge your clay o roll a slab of clay and shape it into usable or sculptural forms o coiling techniques o smoothing and texturing Session 2: March 13th-preparing for Bisque firing o How to: o prepare your pieces for bisque firing in the kiln o options include smoothing, burnishing, and more Session 3: March 20th-Glazing and decorating techniques for Bisqueware o How to: o use a variety of glaze application techniques to decorate your bisque fired pieces o options include stenciling, dipping, painting, dripping, splattering etc. o clean the bottom of your pieces to make sure they don’t stick to the kiln shelf.
