Animal Architecture Art Workshop Instructor Deborah Solomon Saturday, April 5th | 1:00-4:00pm Maximum 8 partners (1 Adult 1 Youth) Registration Fee: $20 for adults / Youth free This is a partnership class for Adults & Youth. Parents/Guardians/Mentors, bring your student and explore the remarkable structures built by animals. Examine the diverse materials, techniques, and purposes behind their architectural endeavors. From the intricate nests and habitats of birds and the complex tunnel systems of burrowing animals, to the towering termite mounds and the underwater constructions of beavers, we will delve into the fascinating world of animal architecture. We will investigate the evolutionary pressures that have shaped these structures, considering their roles in shelter, reproduction, foraging, defense, and social organization. Students will learn about the engineering principles involved in animal construction, the sensory cues animals use to guide their building, and the ecological impacts of their creations. Students will use their imagination, knowledge, and resources to recreate these amazing structures to into a work of art, duplicating the artistry of animals from around the world.
